You Made This A Christmas to Remember...

If you know me, you should know what that title is from...my absolutle FAVORITE Christmas Song.

Okay, you should know me pretty well...like family member well.

Anyways, it isn't Christmas unless I can hear that album... and fortunately for me, I have the original TV special that goes with it on VHS (that I happened to convert to DVD last year!).
Don't know how or when, but I know will meet again. Blowin back to somehwere, like some wild restless winter's wind.
Sorry, can you tell I am listening to it right now?
Tho the fire is hot, will just have to let it simmer
Sorry...

Everytime I listen to this song, I think of Amy. Actually, any of those mushy kind of songs I think of my wife... You would think after being together for 10 years I would be over that... nope!

I have a feeling that I will be rambling in this post. It is 4:41 in the morning and NOTHING to do at work...
CHRISTMAS... The snows comin down,
CHRISTMAS... I'm watchin it fall
CHRISTMAS... Lot's of people around,
CHRISTMAS... Baby please come home
Sorry, another good Christmas song I like just came on. Ya know, I didn't used to like Christmas. Okay, I did...but only because I got presents. But then I met Amy. And she totally changed my attitude about it.

Okay, I still like getting presents the most. But just having the house decorated, Christmas music playing, baking cookies, making fudge...you can't help but get into the spirit.
All I want for Christmas is you....oooooooo Baby!
Hehe...I just got caught by a co-worker rockin out to my Christmas music...I am just sittin here boppin my head away, like there is no tomorrow...hey, at least I am staying awake! Unlike the rest of this week when I was sick...sick for 1.5 weeks!

Okay, back to my wife and Christmas...would you like to know what my most favoritest and memorable Christmas memory is?

When I met Amy in '97, it was around October. We started dating in November (November 30 to be exact) and my Mom and I were the only ones you liked to decorate the house for Christmas.

My dad, the regular scrooge when it came to decorating (he liked the gift part) had us always put up decorations on my mom's birthday (Dec. 16) and take them down the day after Christmas.

Not a whole lot of time to get into the Christmas mood.

Well, the year of 97 was pretty rough. I lost my job, my sister was having personal problems, My mom was working 3 jobs (found out later to avoid my dad) and my life was very confusing.

So my mom and I were not going to decorate for Christmas. Add to that we didn't really have money for gifts, so Christmas was pretty bleak. I was really bummed out, because it was a tradition with my mom and I as we decorate the tree with ornaments my sister and I made throughout the years.

I don't remember the date, but I think it was in the beginning of December, Amy, My mom and I were gonna go to the Mall of America. Except I was really sick that Saturday, so my mom and Amy were gonna go, while I rested. I literally slept the whole day.

Finally that evening, Amy comes into my room and wakes me up. The room is pitch black and I am just out of it and not sure what is happening.

She helps me to the door and I can't figure out why the hallway is so dark, it can't be that dark in my house (I am still in my bedroom at this point)...

So I start to walk into the hallway and there is paper covering my door! Turns out it is wrapping paper! So I open my "Gift", which is the rest of my house and walk into the livingroom.

There is our Christmas tree, all decked out, decorated. The railing is all decorated, the works. Top it off, there is presents under the tree too and a few of my friends are over as well!

Amy spent the day with my mom gathering my friends, buying decorations and presents and decorating the house and wrapping gifts while I slept!

That was my favoritest Christmas ever! (Well, next to the sharing my children's first Christmas')

Isn't she sweet. A year later we find the actual presents she had bouht for me, but lost in the move to the mobile home in Hilltop. She bought me two Nike Brand Shirt and Boss Brand Jeans. The first actual brand name clothing I ever had! I still have the jeans! I lost the shirts over the years.

Well, almost time for lunch for me...so I guess I should sign off now...

Have a Merry Christmas all and a Happy New Year!

Oh, and in case you didin't figure it out, here is my favorite album and the lyrics to my favorite song:

Dolly & Kenny's Once Upon A Christmas

A Christmas to Remember

Both:
You've made this a Christmas to remember
Springtime feelin's in the middle of December
Strangers meet and willingly surrender
Oh! What a Christmas to remember

Kenny:
Almost went to Aspen but something told me no
I considered Mammoth but there wasn't enough snow
And I even thought of Gatlinburg, it seemed so far to go
So I headed up to Tahoe for a Christmas on the slopes

Dolly:
And I had fantasized about Christmas in this way
Curled up by a fireplace in a Tahoe ski chalet
With a fast talking lover and some slow burning wood
But even in my wildest dreams it never got this good and

Both:
You've made this a Christmas to remember
Springtime feelin's in the middle of December
Change the radio and I'll turn the lights down dimmer
Oh! What a Christmas to remember

Strangers when we met, lovers as we leave
Christmas to remember, too good to believe
Don't know how or when, but I know we'll meet again
blowin' back to somewhere like some wild restless winter's wind

And you've made this a Christmas to remember
Springtime feelin's in the middle of December
Neath the mistletoe you kissed me warm and tender
Oh! What a Christmas to remember

Dolly:
We loved and laughed and played and joked
Sang Christmas songs and talked to folks
Sleighed the fields and skied the slopes
Then to the lodge for dinner
Now it's time for us to go
As our hearts melt like chimney snow
There's just one thing I want to know
Both: Can we do this next winter
Both: Oh! What a Christmas to remember

You've made this a Christmas to remember
Springtime feelin's in the middle of December
Though the fire is hot, we'll just have to let it simmer
Oh! What a Christmas to remember

You've made this a Christmas to remember (
Dolly: I'm gonna remember)
Springtime feelin's in the middle of December
Though it's cold outside we'll just stoke the burning embers
Oh! What a Christmas to remember

A long overdue update.

Well, it has been quite awhile since I wrote last. And, I guess, a lot has happened that has kept me busy.

Let’s start youngest to oldest.

Riley is getting pretty big. He can stand himself up on things. He crawls VERY fast. The roomba is his friend. He will sneak over there and turn it on whenever he can.

He is also getting in a lot of his teeth. He also gives this great big cheesy grin. Matter of fact, it is the same cheesy grin that Dominic and Mikayla had when they were younger. The one where they scrunch up their whole face and all you see is a big toothy grin. I love it. I could stare at that face the rest of my life and be content.

He also loves the computer even more now. He will play pogo with grandma or Amy, or watch me play WoW.

He still takes his naps with me in the afternoon when Amy sneaks him in bed with me. I never know he is there until he wakes me up. If Amy gets him before I wake up, then they come in around 2:30 and wake me up. There is nothing better than having your baby boy sitting next to you on the bed, gently patting your back to wake you up and going “da da da da”

Mikayla is just like her mother. All attitude. But cute attitude. And she is still my baby girl and still a little princess.

She is still in dance. Unfortunately we don’t know for how long she will be able to stay in dance. She is currently in Pre-Comp. But after that she would go into a competition line. Trouble is, it is EXPENSIVE! So far this year I think comp line has paid about $400 in dues, and that is just since September! They still have more to go!

Dominic is doing pretty well in school. He still will have his moments where he likes to screw around and not pay attention, but we are working on those. He and I have nightly talks. Sometimes we talk about whatever he wants to talk about and sometimes we talk about what I want to talk about and sometimes it is to talk about serious matters (like behaving).

Courtney is doing great in school. Smart as ever, still in the Talented and Gifted Program at school. She does have this knack for turning in homework late. So we are working on that one.

My mom is doing pretty well. She is known around here is the beddie-time grandma. It is her job to put Riley to sleep at night. I think the record is 2 seconds. She literally picked him up, he rolled over to look at her and out he went. He seems to sleep better at night if grams puts him to bed. Sometimes though she has to wear him out by playing pogo with him or watch some TV. It is there special bonding time together.

Amy is busy as ever. It is Girl Scout cookie season and being the Service Unit Cookie Coordinator for the entire Centennial Service Unit (60 troops this year). It is her job to make sure everyone gets their troops order in on time, train the “cookie moms”, and organize all the paperwork. I helped her out this year by putting together a PowerPoint presentation for her to use, so she could make sure that all the trainees (in three different training sessions) got the same information.

I am doing so-so. Working third shift does take its toll. I am always tired. I feel like I never get anything accomplished at home. I still am on the Board at our cooperative. And still the Communications/Marketing Committee Chairperson and Committee Relations Advisor. Not easy work, I am constantly busy.

I have been going back and forth with the decision if I want to run to be on the board again this February, or not. And if I want to stay involved in my committee or not.
  • The pro is that I get a say in what happens where I live, I get to be a part of something grand (in its beginnings too!).
  • The con is that it takes up so much of my time, some of my neighborhood friendships have deteriorated, I get frustrated with the in fighting and drama.
So I try to figure out if it is really worth it. I know that there is no one else who could do the jobs I do. No one is as organized as a secretary as I am. No one has the skills (let alone the design programs) to do the creative work that I do to try and make this park more professional.

It is also hard being in the ‘public eye’, since I am such a private person.

I hate not having free time and being lazy, like I used to be. Every waking moment is filled with things to do.

But anyways. Enough of that.

Not sure what else I should write. I want to write more, but finding the time is exhausting. I have so many things I want to do. Lose weight, eat right, write more, home projects, office projects. The list goes on and on and on.

  • Aquarius - 25th Annviersary Edition
  • Take Me Out - Franz Ferdidnand

My Life is My Life

Well, I am on my last week of training for my new assignment. I can’t wait to get started, but I am a little nervous too. It will be different once I am ‘out on the floor’. But I wish all my other clients had training like this. Very comprehensive.

Riley is getting so very big. We had to buy him a new car seat. I can’t get over how happy and smiley he is. Whenever he sees Amy, my mom or me, he just lights up and smiles at us. He loves to laugh at me. I tell Amy, it is because of my hair!

Recently we sat him in from of my laptop and he was so engrossed in it.

He would try and tap on the keys and just watch the monitor. A few days later, Amy put him in from of my moms PC and he would just attack those keys and watch the screen. When something would pop up, he would try and make it reappear by hitting one side of the keyboard and then the other. And if it worked, he would do it again. He is very smart and will be using a computer in no time.

Amy has him on baby food now. He loves it! She will mix the baby food with rice cereal and he just eats it up.

And of course, he loves his snuggle time. Last night mom had him asleep and not 5 minutes later he was awake. Mom put him next to me on the couch (where he could watch me play World of Warcraft) and not 5 minutes later, he was back asleep!

Amy will put him in bed with us, in the early morning, and he will slowly edge his head close to me, and push Amy off the bed with his feet. So she ends up going to sleep in another room and Riley and I have the bed to ourselves. And he will sleep for a few more hours.

Courtney has been gone most of the summer. She switches weeks with her dad, but the last time we had her she was at Girl Scout Camp. Then the when she went back to her dads, she went to their church camp. So she has been just a camping away.

Dominic and Mikayla are both doing good. Just hanging around the house, getting on each others nerves. They play nice one day, fight like hell the next. Usual sibling stuff.

My dad has been in the hospital since June 14, and I finally went out to see him last night. Time just flew by and I had so much going on with the family that I didn’t have a chance to visit him. That, and I don’t like hospitals unless a baby is being born.

Dad had to have the back part of his leg removed, and if it doesn’t heal, they may need to take off his leg from above the knee. He is doing better. He originally went in for pacemaker problems and tiredness and they found out his leg was infected (I think there was a blocked artery). He is not expected to get out for another 8-14 weeks!

Not much else has been happening around the house. Been pretty quiet.

DRA-MA

Well, talk about living in the 'Days of Our Lives'. I swear to god, I so am in Salem right now. Where the hell is Marlena? I need a shrink right now.

I am not going to bore you with details. But my park is 'resident-owned' and I was on the interim board as the secretary. We just had our official elections, and OH THE DRAMA! THE HORROR!

I am so frustrated right now. So much crap and I just can't stand it anymore.

So how the hell is your week? Wanna trade? Thank god I have World of Warcraft that I can just veg out in and not worry about it. Just run here, do this quest, kill this monster, and then log out.

I filed our taxes, and as soon as the money is here, my honky-ass is GOING SHOPPING! I need the release! And some new gizmos.

Anways. I think I may try and buy me some Lambrusco wine. My friend Melinda tells me I will like it, so I think I will buy some and try and feel good. Not drunk, mind you! Just a little happy. I don't drink. So this would be the first drop of alcohol since guys weekend in 2004.

Drinking alcohol just doesn't appeal to me, but I could see myself having a glass of wine with dinner or at night. Just one. I am not a lush. (UPDATE: I never did go get any wine or anything. I played World of Warcraft so late, that the liquor store was closed!)

I go out Walkin...

Well, the kids have a break from school, we have conferences tomorrow, and me and Dominic need to go on our Walk.

Dominic was having a rough time at school, so I thought that maybe me and him needed some Father/Son time. Well, a few weeks back they had the Mile walk at school and they inspired me to go out walking. Well, I decided this would be a perfect opportunity for me and him to go out and talk and bond.

Well, we went and walked once so far (work became hectic and homework was tough) but he really enjoyed it. When we can't go out and walk, we walk in the house, or go in his bedroom and just talk about his day. I think it is really helping.

So tomorrow, we are gonna go for a walk after lunch (then maybe play some games.)

I don't have any assignments now until after January, so my work is trying to find more work for me to do. I hope they find something soon. But at least with this time off, I can revamp my portfolio, read up on the latest design programs and learn them, and finish some projects I have had for a few years now.

Other than that, not much else is going on.

Ya know, there is some really good shows on TV right now. Close to home, medium, ghost whisperer, lost...

I don't wanna grow up... I'm a special ed kid...

My mommy dropped me on my head and look what it did...

I was in Special Ed growing up and me and a friend came up with a song sung to the tune of the Toys-R-Us song... we were really bored.

the reason I am singing that now is Amy mentioned that wherever she goes, people make her tell the story and sing the song... kinda funny.

And way, I had a good weekend.

I finished work, got to go shopping and finished painting my dining room with grapevines.

Made BLTs, snicker salad and even had time to make chocolate chip cookies and my famous Chicken/Mandarin Orange/Red Grapde salad... Momma Mona will kill me when she finds that out!

I even finished working on the DVD of Jennifer's wedding. So that felt good. Now I just need to finish the reception, my Dolly LPs, Home movies and I think I am set for a while.

I have the next week off, which sucks, but at the same time, it will be nice to have a week off before my birthday! It's my golden birthday ya know....

Til later!

I'm in bed...

I am in bed right now, getting ready to hit the sack. Ya know how you always see the couples on TV shows, and one is in bed with a laptop working. I always wanted to do that. So I am.....except Amy is at Girl Scout camp this week.

Monday and Tuesday night I let the kids sleep in bed with me. I just can't sleep alone. But Wed and Thurs night I am sleeping alone, I have to work, so I didn't want to wake the kids with an alarm.

Today was Mikayla's birthday. My baby is 5. We drove up to the G.S. camp so she could share her day with mama and the other Girl Scouts. Who absolutely adore Mikayla, they all made cards.

I really miss Amy. It sucks when she is gone so long. I really hate it. Not only do I miss her, but I can't sleep without her next to me.

But she will be back tomorrow, so that shouldn't be too bad.

Well, I should go to bed so I can get up in the morning. I just wanted to update my blog. I haven't been doing that lately.

Currently in my iPod (which Amy has all week, so shall we say my laptop)....
  • Let's get Loud... J-Lo
  • Alka Yagnik
  • Dolly Parton... old hits.
Have I mentioned I LOVE my laptop lately?

Happy Birthday Mikayla!

Photo Blog

I just realize that I never updated my photo blog and that I have been putting photos on my normal blog.

So. I am transfering some artwork over to the photo blog and decided to use that to showcase artwork or other photos.

So please periodically check my photo blog (which can be access by clicking on the photo blog button on my home page www.bertjones.com or clicking here: tiggermn.buzznet.com)

Life is going okay for right now. I am working a bit more, so that is a good thing. I still wish it was during the day though and more permanent.

I am going through and re-recording all my LPs into my computer so that I can remaster them and put them on CD. A lot of work, I have about 6 of 56 records done.

I am also still trying to scan paperwork. I decided, why keep all this paper around, when I can scan it all to a PDF and store about 5 boxes of paper on a CD? Saves space and I can access it easier.

Well, Hello Dolly!

Just got back from the Dolly Concert! I am so wound up! IT WAS UN-BELIEVABLE!

We got there early. My mom and Daughter sporting their Dolly T-Shirts. We grabbed some pizza, some souvenirs and then took to our seats. WOW! I picked great seats. We were on the aisle (great for a big person like me) an we were pretty close.

The Grascals opened and warmed us up to some great tunes. They mentioned their new single coming out and one of the songs on it "Viva Las Vegas" a Duet with Dolly would be on it. A local Dolly Impersonator danced in the aisles to one of their songs.

Then the band played Hello Dolly while they showed some pictures of Dolly in a "Hello Dolly" golden gown, she was making some cute poses, some funny poses and just being Dolly!

Then Dolly came out to wrap up that song and start off the show (She even plugged a Dollywood commercial while in the songs "Hooray for Dollywood" she even said she would plug a commercial where she could).

She asked us if we wanted to Party. Well, that only means we are going Two Doors Down! She then continued the medley with 9 to 5, Here You Come Again and I believe Jolene.

She talked about new technology and how they had her decked out with like 3 mics (One on her head, one on stage and one in between her assets--she tested that one out and it overly-echoed!). She talked about her costume changes and how they will happen on stage (sorry, no Janet Jackson replay! She said she would have taken out the first four rows)

She played the piano to The Grass is Blue in Norah Jones style. Talked about how Elvis wanted to sing I Will Always Love You, but she didn't want to give up the publishing rights. (Good thing too!) And sang songs from her new album coming out after the 1st of the year. John Lennon's Imagine and Kris Kristofferson's Bobby McGee and a new Song called Blue Smoke (about a train). Her rendition of Imagine almost made me cry.

She sang "I Will Always Love you" with Elvis and by herself. "Little Sparrow" (acapella--you could hear it in the rafters--everyone was so still and quiet. It was just awesome) "Johnny Come Marchin Home", "Coat of Many Colors", "Smoky Mountain Memories", "Thank God I'm A Country Girl", "Baby It's Cold Outside" (on an album with Rod Stewart) "Island In the Streams" (With a Kenny Rogers puppet--that was made here in Minneapolis by a local company--I think called Mini-Effects) Her Encore was Hello God.

Her entire set was (To the best of my knowledge):
Hello, I'm Dolly / Two Doors Down / Medley: Nine To Five, Why'd You Come In Here Lookin Like That, Here You Come Again, Jolene / The Grass Is Blue / Baby It's Cold Outside / PMS Blues / I Dreamed Of Elvis / I Will Always Love You / Blue Smoke / Me & Bobby McGee / Imagine /Little Sparrow / Viva Las Vegas / Islands In The Stream / Thank God I'm A Country Girl / My Tennessee Mountain Home / Coat Of Many Colors / Smoky Mountain Memories / When Johnny Comes Marchin Home / ENCORE: Hello God.

Don Warden was supposedly in the audience.

I know I am missing a few songs. It was such a whirlwind of fun. Dolly cracked many jokes. It was a memorable event that I will remembers always. She had the entire audience sing "I Will Always Love You" with just her and it was awesome. She wanted to take us all on the road with her (I am sure she says that to all the audiences!)

A few Dolly trivia:
  • Richard Dennison (who sang Rod's part in Baby It's Cold Outside) is her long time backup singer and is married to her little sister Rachel.
  • Don Warden produced (I believe) a lot of Albums with Dolly.
Souvenirs:
  • There were two photo shots,
  • The Concert Poster,
  • a key chain,
  • a huge book,
  • various t-shirts,
  • pink sweatbands and hats
  • her Live and Well CD & DVD.
I got a wristband for each girl, a key chain for my son and 2 photos for me. I had forgotten how expensive a concert can be.

Her outfit was very simple, yet all the add-ons drastically changed the look. Dolly is a great performer and especially one stage, there wasn't a dull moment. She kept us with her right from the beginning.

The arena was a half-hall show, so it was more intimate. It wasn't sold out, but it wasn't empty either. I thought there was a good turn out.

I saw her at the State Fair when she was here 11 years ago and this concert was far better. What was really memorable was that this was my 8 year olds first concert and that I got to share Dolly with her was wonderful. I have loved Dolly's music since I was 2 years old. So to pass that one to my children was great!

Thank you Dolly for a wonderful night and thank you for giving me so much music. Music is a big part of my family and there isn't a moment we don't have music on in the house.

I truly believe that Dolly taught me how to sing by listening and sing to her songs. (Although, Whitney Houston did teach me how to breath while singing) And there isn't a situation that I cannot find a Dolly Song to go with it. My best friend used to tell me what was going on in her life, I would find a Dolly song for her to listen to that would help her get through it.

So thank you again Dolly and I can't waint until I get to say, "Here You Come Again!"

UPDATE: After listening to the local radio and reading local reviews, I want to say that I DO NOT BELIEVE DOLLY LIP-SYNC'd at the concert.

She may have had a backing track with a few of the songs, But I have listened to Dolly since I was 2 and have just about every album except 4 really old ones and I listen to her every day and trust me when I say, I can tell when its a recording and when she is live.

I would almost say that Dolly has two voices. One for the studio and one for the stage. Yes, they are very similar, but when you listen to her as long and as much as i do, you can tell the difference.

The only song that sounded like the album version was "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and that was it. I have heard people saying that they were 3 rows away and could see her lip-syncing. I was close enough too and even on the large screen you couldn't see any evidence of that.

So I want to tell you that I don't belive Dolly did that and I am sure that the public is just paranoid with the whole Ashlee Simspon thing and are just trying to bring others down.

Dolly has been around for a long time and I don't think she would do that to her fans, she has told us time and time again that she truly values her fans.

BANKS SUCK!

I hate banks. All these hoops and fees that they have. It is such crap.

The bank I am currently at (not naming name--Not Wells Fargo, Not TCF, the only other major one left!) has this ridiculous policy that if you deposit a check that is not direct deposited, then you have to wait 24 to 48 hours before the fund become available (unless you have enough in your account already to match that amount). They only make $100 of it available.

For the past 4 weeks I have been hit with overdraft fees because technically my check was "available" one day late! So they took out over $600 in fees. What kind of shit is that!!!

We are going to our local credit union this weekend and getting a new account. They don't pull that crap nor do they plan too. My current bank said that all banks would be switching to that policy in a month or two. SO WATCH OUT!

Other than that everything is okey-dokie! This weekend we go to a Twins game. I haven't been to one in years! Since I was in Cub Scouts. After that we go up to Terri's for a Karaoke contest she is hosting and probably spend the night or something! I am sooo excited!

Current music in my iPod:
  • Celine Dion - Amar Haciendo el Amor, Fever
  • RuPaul - Looking Good, Feeling Gorgeous (all 7 remixes)
  • The Wilkensons - 26 Cents
  • Jem - They (Sorry, not the 80s cartoon)
  • Jedd Hughes - High Lonesome
  • Jane Moheit - Over the Rainbow
  • Lee Ann Womack - Buckaroo
I suggest going and getting iTunes and downloading it (need Windows XP or a mac) and getting these songs online! They are worth the 99 cents!

What a week.

Well, this week has been okay. I didn't get very many hours at work. 16! Only 16! My co-worker and I could have used a few more hours. We need at least 20 for our benefit info! Kinda Sucks!

But I got some stuff done. That was good. I am just going through music albums and getting them on my PC right now... I have over 50 albums to do!

Blog ya later!
